This is by far the most difficult image I have yet tried to paint! It took me a total of 34 hours in the recent heatwave and is not a 100% true representation of the village of Gengenbach. I always paint freehand, i.e. no measurements or drawing prior to starting, and found this to be very tough due to the perspectives and many "lines" involved! The two characters depicted are deliberately painted in soft colours that merge into the background, as they are not the main focus of the work. I hope I was able to depict a warm and quaint little village, as was my amateur intention!
The painting is a gift for my father-in-law on his coming birthday.
